Fri., Oct. 14 – CHICAGO / DUBLIN (I)

Today we depart Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport on the non-stop flight to Dublin.

Sat., Oct. 15 – DUBLIN / GALWAY (I,D)

After landing at Dublin Airport our Driver/Guide will welcome us to Ireland. Leaving the airport we’ll journey into the Irish countryside where we’ll stop to visit the medieval monastery of Clonmacnoise on the River Shannon, that once served as a crossroads of routes linking all of Ireland. Afterward we’ll head out for the city of Galway. On arrival we’ll enjoy a panoramic introduction to the city’s main sights including the stunning Cathedral of St. Nicholas, set on an island in the River Corrib; Eyre Square; the Old Quays; the Spanish Arch; and the Claddagh, an independent fishing community beyond the city walls. Galway is a great city for music!

Sun., Oct. 16 – GALWAY (B)

This morning we travel into the Banner County of Clare, to the spectacular Cliffs of Moher, a stunning sight rising to a height of 650 feet from the Atlantic. Take an optional walk to O’Brien’s Tower for an impressive view of the Aran Islands and Galway Bay. Then it’s lunch on your own in Doolin at Gus O’Connor’s Pub, famous for its fish and chips, and perhaps some story-telling by musician Eoin O’Neill. We’ll travel back to Galway through the Burren, one of the world’s most unique ecological regions. This evening joHn, Chris, and Nancy will be making music somewhere.

Mon., Oct. 17 – GALWAY (B)

After breakfast we’ll embark on a walking tour with our friend and Galway local, Brian Nolan, a humorous and informative tour that might even involve a pub or two. There is music everywhere in Galway and it’s a favorite city for exploring on foot, and the rest of the day is yours in one of Europe’s best small cities.

Tues., Oct. 18 – GALWAY / WESTPORT (B,D)

This morning we’ll say goodbye to Galway and journey into the rugged yet serene Connemara region. This rocky land of broad-backed mountains and pearl-like lakes is the largest Irish-speaking section of the country and the traditional ways of life are as much a part of this region’s attraction as is the scenery. We’ll begin our day by traveling along the shores of Galway Bay for a view of the Aran Islands. Then we’re headed to picturesque Kylemore Abbey, a neo-Gothic mansion occupied by an Irish Benedictine community of nuns, where we’ll have an opportunity to walk the abbey grounds. We’ll make a brief stop to see the small but impressive Aasleagh Falls waterfall, before ending end our day in the beautiful town of Westport. joHn and Chris have musical connections in Westport!

Wed., Oct. 19 – WESTPORT (B)

After breakfast this morning, we’ll set out on a walking tour of Westport. Our local guide, Stephen Clarke, will give us a light-hearted tour of one of Ireland’s tidiest towns and introduce us to all the shops, pubs and restaurants that make Westport officially “The Best Place to Live in Ireland.” Then we’ll enjoy more beautiful scenery along with tales of how the Irish Famine affected the area in the 1840s and 50s. We’ll pass Ireland’s holy mountain Croagh Patrick, visit the National Famine memorial and walk part of the National Famine walk before making our way towards Doolough and the Leenane mountains. Our tour will finish at Gaynor’s Pub, where scenes of the movie “The Field” were filmed. Then it’s back to Westport where the evening is at leisure.

Thur., Oct. 20 – WESTPORT / DONEGAL (B,D)

This morning we travel to Achill Island for some of the most stunning scenery on the Wild Atlantic Way. First inhabited 5,000 years ago, Achill Island is Ireland’s largest island, offering spectacularly beautiful views and equally spectacular beaches. Afterward we’ll journey to the town of Sligo, a vibrant coastal town known for its literary and musical heritage, and closely associated with W.B. Yeats’s poetry, prose, and drama. We’ll have time for lunch and a pint at Hargadon’s Pub, maybe even time for a story or two from joHn. Heading north we’ll stop at Drumcliffe, at the foot of Benbulben, to view the final resting place of Yeats before traveling to Donegal, in County Donegal, where joHn’s family roots run deep.

Fri., Oct. 21 – DONEGAL (B,D)

Today we explore the wildest part of the Wild Atlantic Way, as we take in some of the raw beauty of County Donegal, including the astounding panorama of the Slieve League Cliffs, which are three times the height of the better known Cliffs of Moher. Words fail to capture the majesty and sheer height of the cliffs, which are the tallest sea cliffs in Europe. We’ll also see the coastal village of Glencolumbkille, windswept and stunningly beautiful, studded with the remains of monastic huts, and Killybegs, which is the premier fishing port in Ireland. This evening we’ll have a group dinner at Harvey’s Point, which takes its name from the land joHn’s family once farmed.

Sat., Oct. 22 – DONEGAL / DUBLIN (B)

After breakfast today, we depart Donegal and travel to Brú na Bóinne, Ireland’s Valley of the Kings, the cradle of Irish civilization. We’ll see the Hill of Tara, an important site since the late Stone Age, which became truly significant in the Iron Age when it rose to supreme prominence as the seat of the high kings of Ireland. Next we head to Newgrange, the best known Irish passage tomb, that dates to circa 3,200 BC. The large mound is surrounded at its base by a kerb of 97 stones, the most impressive of which is the highly decorated Entrance Stone. Afterward we’ll head to Trim Castle, a Norman stronghold on the River Boyne, which marked the boundary of the Pale. We’ll end our day in the capital city of Dublin.

Tonight is our last night before leaving the Emerald Isle, so we’ll be sure to enjoy music and more craic before settling in for the night.

Sun., Oct. 23 – DUBLIN / CHICAGO (B,I)

All too soon, our time in Ireland has come to an end. We transfer to Dublin Airport in plenty of time to check in for our non-stop flight to Chicago.

TOUR PRICING: The tour price is based on a minimum participation of 20 persons and includes planning, handling and operational charges and is quoted on the current rate of exchange, tariff rates and airfares in effect as of April 1, 2022.

CANCELLATION: If after making your initial deposit you find it necessary to cancel from the tour for any reason, there is a cancellation charge equal to the per person deposit up to 100 days prior to departure. For cancellation between 99 and 65 days prior to departure, there is a cancellation charge equal to 50% of the tour cost. For cancellation within 64 days of departure, the cancellation charge is 100% of the tour cost. IMPORTANT: Cancellations will not be accepted by telephone and must be sent in writing to: InterTrav Corporation, 203 State Avenue, St. Charles, Illinois 60174, or emailed to travel@intertravcorp.com.

TRAVEL PROTECTION: You have the option of purchasing Travel Protection through Travel Insured International.
